Use these checks when a room plan is moving from a sketch to an accommodation decision.
How does the calculator count a bed position?
It divides the clear width and length by the bed footprint plus the gap, after reserving a walkway and the locker or door-swing area. The two orientations are compared and the better complete grid is drawn.
Why can the physical count exceed the area figure?
A room may have enough geometric space for a grid while still providing too little usable floor area per person. The page therefore reports both counts so a manager can see the trade-off.
Is the reference area a legal minimum?
No. It is an editable reference figure supplied for planning. Check the current local requirement and the customer’s social-audit standard before relying on it.
What does the reserved area do?
It is removed from usable area and drawn as a separate strip at the end of the room. Use it for lockers, circulation blocked by a door swing or another area that should not be counted for sleeping capacity.
Does this floor plan save room measurements?
No. The tool runs in this browser, makes no network request and does not store the values. Print the result only when you are ready to share it.
